ASW-G-66 Gundam Kimaris

ASW-G-66 Gundam Kimaris

The ASW-G-66 Gundam Kimaris is a Mobile Suit introduced in the first

season of Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS. It is piloted by Gaelio Bauduin.

Features

One of the Gundam Frames that was produced and used in the Calamity War around 300 years ago, the Gundam Kimaris is capable of achieving high fuel efficiency because it has two Ahab reactors. Only 72 Gundam Frames were produced in total, because it is difficult to operate two Ahab reactors in parallel operation. The Kimaris specializes in close combat. He uses a spear named 'Gungnir' as his primary weapon, while also possessing a folding combat knife and two launchers in his shoulders that fire disc-shaped weapons called Slash Disks.

Thanks to the versatility of Gundam Frames, the Gundam Kimaris can be used in any environment, but it is particularly adept at space combat and has exceptional stability in low-orbit combat despite the pull of gravity. The Kimaris also has great mobility thanks to various boosters on its body, including a pair of hidden high-output boosters in each leg. Although attitude control becomes difficult when these leg boosters are deployed, a full boost from them allows the Kimaris to reach distant enemies in an instant, and they can also be used for quick turns or to quickly accelerate . Other notable features of the Kimaris are a cluster of high-sensitivity sensors in its head that can correct its course during millimeter attacks, and four head-mounted flash bang launchers.

  • High-output Leg Booster

A pair of powerful boosters are mounted in each of the Kimaris' legs. When deployed, the Kimaris' legs fold and the armor panels on the front and rear of the legs open to reveal the thrusters. They increase the thrust of the Kimaris in the frontal direction, allowing it to quickly enter close combat range. Often used with the Gungnir for hit-and-run attacks, they are the source of the spear's penetrating power. Using thrusters makes altitude control difficult, but once mastered they can also be used for quick turns or to accelerate quickly.

  • Flash Bang Launcher

Four flash bang launchers are mounted in the head of the Kimaris. When flash bangs are deployed, the MS sensors are covered with shutters, but their sensitivity drops by 70%.

  • Kimaris Booster

Mounted on the rear, it is an optional high-output booster that is created specifically for the Gundam Kimaris. Developed primarily for long-distance solo flight and low orbital combat, the booster was used by Gaelio to increase the machine's mobility in order to defeat the Gundam Barbatos. The booster unit also enhances the MS's hit-and-run attacks with the Gungnir, and can help maintain its high mobility under the influence of a planet's gravity. The Kimaris Booster is not without its faults, its main disadvantage is that it reduces the rotation capacity of the machine. However, this can be corrected by using the high output leg boosters. Additionally, a skilled pilot can use it to achieve greater turning capability than possible by normal MS.

Armaments

  • Gungnir: Large spear inspired by those used by knights during horseback jousting in medieval times, the Gungnir is the main and most symbolic weapon of the Kimaris. Its majestic appearance gives many the impression that the Kimaris itself resembles a medieval knight. The Kimaris' primary fighting style is to use Gungnir in hit-and-run attacks. The Gungnir has great penetrating power due to the Kimaris' high mobility, and is equipped with two 120mm cannons for suppressive fire. The back of the spear can be used as an emergency weapon to strike the enemy sneaking up on the Kimaris's back.
  • Combat Knife: A folding knife stored on the rear skirt armor, it is developed primarily for ground and sea combat, but can also be used for space combat. However, slowing down and using the combat knife to exchange blows with the opponent is not the first choice for the Kimaris.
  • Slash Disk: A high-speed rotating disk fired electromagnetically from a pair of launchers concealed in the shoulder armor, a single charge allows the firing of three disks. The sharp disc can tear through Nanolaminate Armor, and is made of the same rare metal used for Gundam Frames.

History

The Kimaris Gundam is the 66th of 72 Gundam Frames created by Gjallarhorn towards the end of the Calamity War to counter the threat of powerful Mobile Armor such as the Hashmal. It was piloted by Gargin Bauduin, the first head of the Bauduin family, who played a key role in ending the war. Thus, the Kimaris is considered a heroic Mobile Suit and Gargin Bauduin's stellar feat has made the Bauduin family one of the famous Seven Stars of Gjallarhorn. After the war, the Gundam participated in various ceremonies as a symbol of Gjallarhorn and became famous. However, it disappeared from people's memory over the course of three centuries. In PD 323, Gaelio Bauduin removed Kimaris from the family treasury to fight Tekkadan's ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos. This is also the first time the Kimaris has been deployed into combat since the end of the Calamity War.

Gaelio's first battle with the Kimaris Gundam takes place in the space region surrounding the Dort Colonies. With his hit-and-run tactics, he gave Gundam Barbatos a hard time. However, the battle between the two

Gundam was interrupted when the ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion Rebake arrived to support the Barbatos, and deflected the Kimaris' Gungnir spear with its shield. Kimaris then fought the two Gundams, but was obviously at a disadvantage and was forced to retreat when the main Arianrhod fleet arrived on the scene. Determined to defeat the Barbatos, Gaelio equips the Kimaris with the Kimaris Booster, and engages the Barbatos again when Tekkadan attempts to enter Earth's atmosphere. However, Kimaris's attacks with his Gungir spear were quickly neutralized by Barbatos's reactive torso armor, and the spear was thrown back by Barbatos. Kimaris continued to fight with his combat knife, but was eventually blinded by the Barbatos' arm mortars. The vulnerable Kimaris was then attacked by the Barbatos with the Gungnir spear, but Ein Dalton's EB-05s Schwalbe Graze took the hit instead. The Barbatos then left when reinforcements from Gjallarhorn arrived, and Gaelio brought the Kimaris closer to the Schwalbe Graze to tend to Ein's wounds.

With the arrival of Tekkadan on Earth, the Gundam Kimaris was equipped with alternate armor for ground combat and became the ASW-G-66 Gundam Kimaris Trooper.

Did you know?

  • Kimaris, also called Cimeries, is the 66th demon of Ars Goetia. He is described as a pious warrior riding a black horse and possesses the abilities to locate lost or hidden treasures, teach the trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric), and make a man a warrior to suit him. He holds the rank of marquis and is served by 20 legions. He also reigns over all the minds of Africa.
  • Gungnir is the name of the spear of the Viking god Odin.
  • The sigil of the Demon Kimaris appears engraved on the back wall of the empty hangar intended to house the Gundam, inside the Gundam Vault at Gjallarhorn Headquarters. This, coupled with the fact that the Bael and Barbatos Demon Seals appear on the activation screens of the corresponding Gundams, makes it likely that each of the 72 Gundams used the seal of its namesake demon as a symbol, and probably the same symbol appears on the activation screen of each Gundam.
