ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion

ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion

The ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion is a Mobile Suit introduced in the Mobile anime

Follows Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS and is piloted by Kudal Cadel.

Features

One of the "Gundam Frames" that were produced and used during the Calamity War approximately 300 years ago. Gundam units like the Gusion are able to achieve high energy efficiency because they have two Ahab reactors. However, since it is difficult to operate the two reactors in parallel, only 72 Gundam Frames were produced. By using both thrusters at their maximum power and combining them with high powered thrusters, the Gusion was able to achieve excellent mobility while being equipped with super heavy armor.

Although the Gundam Frame is very versatile and can be used in any environment, space pirate group Brewers customized the Gusion for space use (specifically for the debris area) because the group does not intend to operate under gravity. Large propellant tanks are placed in the MS armor to reduce the risk of the Gusion running out of fuel due to its weight. However, its solo flight distance and operational combat time are still considered to be short. Despite this, the Gusion remains a formidable opponent due to its superior armor which cannot be dented by anti-air attacks. The armor is also able to withstand a shot from the Gundam Barbatos' Smoothbore cannon at close range, and can render sharp and blunt weapons useless. Its main weapons are a large hammer equipped with a thruster and a machine gun.

Armaments

  • Gusion Hammer: A hammer wielded by the Gusion that uses its mace to inflict heavy damage. It weighs over 15 tons, and has four thrusters on the back of the hammerhead that help control the weapon's trajectory and increase its destructive power when striking. It is stowed on the weapon latch on the Gusion's back when not in use.
  • 90mm Submachine Gun: A submachine gun from MS that is widely used among pirates due to its relatively low price. Due to its light weight, it is easy to handle. It has a sliding structure and is stored on the rear skirt armor when not in use.
  • Vulcan Gun: A pair of Vulcan cannons are mounted on the Gusion's head, they have a high rate of fire but little power. Vulcan cannons can, however, damage lightly armored areas such as sensors and are ideal for intercepting incoming missiles or enemy units at close range. The Gusion's Vulcan cannons can also be used to fire distress or retreat lights.
  • 400mm Buster Anchor: Four 400mm Buster Anchors are used to attack ships and MS are housed in the Gusion's chest. These are the largest caliber weapons installed on an MS.
  • Hand Grenade: Two hand grenades are installed under the side skirts, for a total of four grenades. They can also be dropped from the side skirts, and are then used as mines.
  • Gusion Chopper: A hatchet-shaped short weapon that boosts the Mobile Suit's power in close combat. There are two thrusters on the opposite side of the blade, and they can be activated on impact to inflict greater damage. Between the thrusters is a slot that allows the weapon to be mounted on the rear skirt armor when not in use. The Gusion Chopper was most likely confiscated by Tekkadan, as it was used by the ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion Rebake against Gjallarhorn forces on the outskirts of Edmonton.
  • Gusion Axe: A long ax with a hammer at the tip. The hammer is actually a spike ball and is connected to the ax shaft via retractable chains, therefore it can be pulled or used as a flail. Overall, the Gusion Ax is a close combat weapon with a long effective range. Can be stored on the back when not in use. It is not used in the anime.

History

The ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion is one of 72 Gundam Frames created by Gjallarhorn towards the end of the Calamity War to counter the threat of powerful Mobile Armor such as the Hashmal. The Gusion was discovered in recent years in a high-density debris patch that is very difficult to navigate. It is passed between different pirate groups that operate in the area until it lands in the hands of the Brewers, where it is piloted by Kudal Cadel.

During the Brewers' second battle against Tekkadan, the Gusion was repelled by Mikazuki Augus and his Gundam ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos lighter and more agile. Trying to find a way to get the better of the Barbatos, Cadel saw Masahiro Altland in his UGY-R41 Man Rodi engaged with his brother Akihiro Altland and his EB-06/tc Graze Custom. Cadel attempted to hold the Graze Custom hostage. He then threw the Gusion Hammer at them, but Masahiro pushed Akihiro and his Graze out of the way at the last minute, and the hammer slammed into Masahiro's Man Rodi chest and pinned him to the asteroid behind him. . The Barbatos continued its attack on the Gusion, eventually ridding it of its hammer before stabbing its longsword between the Gusion's exposed "neck" and through its cockpit, killing Cadel.

The Gusion was later seized by Tekkadan along with nine working Man Rodis. Since it was the MS that killed Akihiro's younger brother, Orga Itsuka considered selling him along with the nine Rodis. After the funeral of the Tekkadan crew and the human remains of the Brewers who died in battle, Akihiro expressed to Orga his desire to pilot the Gusion, as a way of remembering his deceased brother. The unit was later converted to the ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion Rebake.

Did you know?

  • Gusion is the 11th demon of the Ars Goetia. He is a strong Grand Duke of Hell, and rules over forty legions of demons. He recounts all things past, present and future, gives meaning to all questions put to him, reconciles friends, and gives honor and dignity. He is represented as a baboon or according to some, in the form of a cynocephalus (monkey with an elongated snout, like that of a dog).
  • Due to its unique appearance, the Gusion's Gundam Frame is barely visible from the outside. The Gundam Frame is only exposed at the elbows, knees, and hands.
  • Gundam Gusion is one of the few MS post-disaster to use head-mounted Vulcan cannons, the others being the Man Rodi and landman Rodi.
  • The 90mm submachine gun is modeled after the real life model of the MP5K SMG.
