Share
The AMA-953 BABI is a mobile suit introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam.
SEED Destiny.
Features
The BABI is the successor to the AMF-101 DINN and is designated as an "Aerial Maneuver Attacker" (hence AMA in its serial number. It is developed to maintain ZAFT's air superiority against the new autonomous flight-capable MS (without additional modules) deployed by the Earth Alliance and the Orb Union, and can transform into Mobile Armor mode for high-speed flight by spreading its wings and folding its legs on its back. The BABI not only improves the DINN's weak attack power and insufficient armor, but also has better flight performance and aerial combat capabilities. It is equipped with a variety of beam and shell weapons and some of its internal parts are compatible with those of the ZGMF-2000 GOUF Ignited .
Armaments
- MGX-2237 "Ardor" Multi-Phase Beam Cannon: Mounted in the chest, the "Ardor" Multi-Phase Beam Cannon is the machine's most powerful weapon and can be used in MS mode to destroy enemy units in the front or in MA mode to attack ground installations.
- QFJ91 12-barrel Missiles Launcher: Mounted on the wings, the missile launchers are mainly used in MA mode to attack enemy units or to bombard enemy installations.
- MMI-GAU2436 22.5mm 4-barrel Machine Gun: The BABI has four machine guns, two on each wing. These machine guns are mainly used in MA mode to intercept enemy attacks.
- MA-M343 Beam Rifle: A hand-held rifle, it is usually held in the right hand and serves as a medium-range combat weapon.
- MMI-M182 Aerial Gun-launcher: The machine's second handheld armament is usually held in the left hand and can fire large-caliber shells and missiles.
History
The AMA-953 BABI was introduced just after the outbreak of the Second Alliance-PLANT War in late CE 73, as ZAFT's final airborne MS, designed to replace the older AMF-101 DINN . The BABI was assigned to ZAFT's bases on Earth, including Carpentaria Base. In early CE 74, six BABI were deployed to Diocuia Base during the pursuit of a shuttle stolen by Lacus Clyne and Andrew Waltfeld, but these units were quickly disabled by the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam . They were later used in major battles such as Berlin, where they attempted to stop the GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam . Other units were used in the Logos Capture Operation during the attack on Heaven Base as well as Operation Fury, in which ZAFT attacked the Orb Union.

- The BABI has many similarities with the RX-139 Hambrabi of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Other than similar names, they are both transforming units, and also share some similarities in shape, such as their heads.
